La creatina è un composto presente in natura che si trova in piccole quantità in alcuni alimenti come carne e pesce. È disponibile anche come integratore alimentare. La creatina viene immagazzinata nei muscoli sotto forma di fosfocreatina e viene utilizzata come fonte di energia durante attività ad alta intensità e di breve durata come il sollevamento pesi e lo sprint. È anche comunemente usato come integratore da atleti che cercano di aumentare la forza e le prestazioni atletiche. Se assunta come integratore, la creatina viene tipicamente utilizzata in una fase di carico (20 grammi al giorno per 5-7 giorni) seguita da una fase di mantenimento (3 grammi al giorno).
